AWLO PRESIDENT VISITS AKICORP, SEEKS WOMEN’S INCLUSION IN INVESTMENT

The Founder and Global President of the African Women in Leadership Organisation (AWLO), Amb. Dr. Elisha Attai, on Tuesday paid a strategic courtesy visit to the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Akwa Ibom Investment Corporation (AKICORP), Mr. Imo-Abasi Jacob, at the corporation’s headquarters in Uyo.

The visit, held on April 21, 2026, focused on exploring areas of collaboration between AWLO and AKICORP, particularly in advancing women’s participation in economic development and investment initiatives in Akwa Ibom State.

Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Attai described AWLO as a Non-Profit Organisation committed to leadership development, mentorship, and the advancement of African women across various sectors. He stressed the importance of integrating women into mainstream economic and investment frameworks, noting that such inclusion is critical to Africa’s growth trajectory.

“Women’s leadership is at the heart of Africa’s transformation. Our visit today is to reinforce our commitment to partnering with institutions like AKICORP to ensure that women are at the forefront of the investment and development agenda,” he said.

Dr. Attai further emphasized that empowering women in leadership and entrepreneurship should be seen not merely as a social intervention, but as a strategic economic imperative capable of driving sustainable development across the continent.

As part of the visit, he formally presented the latest edition of the AWLO Magazine to the AKICORP Managing Director. He explained that the publication serves as a flagship document of the organisation, highlighting the achievements of African women trailblazers while providing insights into emerging leadership trends and economic opportunities.

He reaffirmed AKICORP’s openness to partnerships that align with the ARISE Agenda of Governor Umo Eno’s Administration, particularly initiatives that encourage investment in sectors where women-led enterprises can thrive.

According to him, AKICORP remains committed to driving private sector investments, managing State-owned assets, and fostering an investor-friendly environment in Akwa Ibom State.

Mr. Jacob also expressed the Corporation’s willingness to engage in further discussions with AWLO on potential collaborative initiatives aimed at increasing women’s participation in the State’s industrialisation and broader investment programmes.

Both parties agreed to sustain dialogue towards developing actionable strategies that would strengthen women’s economic inclusion and contribute to the overall development of the State.
